Minimally Invasive surgical techniques — also called laparoscopic surgery — for the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic, abdominal and other specific diseases continue to develop. Surgeons at the University of Arizona Medical Center have mastered these techniques and made minimally invasive surgery the preferred surgical approach for many illnesses.
Unlike open surgery, which requires a long incision, minimally invasive procedures are performed through one or more small incisions. For most patients, this leads to significantly less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery. Many of these operations are done on an outpatient basis.
