The newly-completed Student Union Memorial Center, one-of-the-nation's-largest student unions is high on the wow factor. The heartbeat of the university is a 10-acre student-friendly building mingling food, fun, shopping, studying, and just hanging out. Officially named the Student Union Memorial Center, it pays tribute--both in design and memorabilia--to the U.S.S. Arizona, sunk at Pearl Harbor in 1941. From a plethora of options in dining to game rooms, study rooms, student activities offices, the Career Center, computer terminals, a hair salon, bank and copy services, post office, theater, and convenience store, the new building boasts some 405,000 square feet of everything you need. Scattered around the building are patios ideal for eating lunch, studying, or people-watching. The bookstore offers 75,000 titles, comfy leather chairs, and side-servings of UA-themed clothing and a cosmetics counter. An art gallery, comedy club, movie theater, and TV lounges offer a brain-break from studying. Some 22,000 students visit the student union every day-ordering Chinese to go, grabbing a mocha decaf latte, checking meeting schedules, improving their bank shots, picking up groceries, getting a haircut, or just watching the world go by from a shady patio table.
